Let me educate you on a couple different choices of countertops.
Granite
First off, let’s talk about granite this stone is very popular and well known. Granite is durable and natural. This stone is available in a wide range of colours and patterns. Granite is heat-resistant and scratch-resistant.This natural stone may require sealing to prevent stains.
Granite countertops can be more affordable than some other natural stone materials, although the price can vary depending on the quality of the stone and its origin.
Keep in mind, granite and other natural stones can be finished in multiple ways! To give them a fresh look.
Leathered absolute black granite gives an updated look when paired with the correct cabinetry and colours. I have used leathered granite personally many times in projects such as butler pantries and bar tops.
Quartz
Now let’s talk about quartz, this is currently a popular choice seen in many new homes and widely used in renovation. Quartz not to be confused with quartzite. Quartz is man made, durable and non porous meaning no sealing or maintenance.
Quartz is resistant to scratches, stains, and heat or so they say. (Warning: I’ve actually had a quartz countertop crack on me due to heat! Mind you it was prolong heat exposure)
These countertops are available in a wide range of colours and patterns, and they are easy to maintain.
Some quartz surfaces try to mock marble or other patterns. Quartz is a fantastic choice for bathrooms and kitchens. The price can be higher than other materials but it does pay off if you want an updated, worry free surface.
Quartzite
If you LOVE the look of real marble but not the fact it is extremely hard to live with! Quartzite maybe an option for you to consider.
Lately I’ve been crushing on TAJ MAHAL just not the price point! I adore the white and beige tones in this stone.
Quartzite is a natural stone, It can have a similar appearance to marble, with veins and swirls in shades of grey, beige, and white.
Quartzite is extremely durable and heat-resistant, making it a popular choice for kitchen countertops. It is also resistant to scratches and stains, although it may require sealing to maintain its appearance.
Quartzite is priced higher than some other natural stone materials, due to its durability and rarity.
Marble
Finally lets talk about marble surfaces, depending on the colour they are always a classic and elegant choice for countertops.
Marble has distinct veining and patterns. It is a natural stone that is formed from limestone, and it is available in a range of colours and shades. Marble is softer and more porous than some other materials, which can make it susceptible to scratches, stains, etching, heat damage and chipping. It will require more frequent maintenance and sealing to maintain its appearance. Marble countertops can be more expensive than some other materials, due to their natural beauty and limited availability.
Quartz, quartzite, granite, and marble are all popular choices for countertops each with their own unique properties and characteristics. The price of these materials can vary depending on factors such as their origin, durability, finish and rarity.
When selecting a countertop material, it’s important to consider your personal preferences, lifestyle, and budget to find the best option for your needs.
A couple of additional tips:
Verify the colour of the stone against the other finishes such as cabinetry colour and wall colour before finalizing your choice.
When picking a natural stone the slab should be looked at and appropriate markings of the cut should be confirmed. Every Slab is different, very different! Don’t under estimate this.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match! For example, If you love the look of marble but know you can’t maintain it opt for a plain quartz with a marble full height backsplash.
